Inner Lip Tattoo
Mar 26th

People tattoo everywhere…=) (and, yes, I really do mean everywhere)
Part of the traditional Maori moko is facial/external lip tatooing. Lip tattooing is common in lots of polynesian-esque communities and is often performed on women. I”ve had a traditional Thai tattoo done on my arm with similar equipment used in Maori tattooing (not much more than a meter long stick with a needle on the end) and it was SORE. What that”s like on your lip, I can only imagine! I”m back off to New Zealand in March, though, so who knows…=)
Many moko are truly beautiful but, annoyingly, I can”t find any pictures on the web through work”s filter…
Inner lip tattoos are also becoming more prevalent these days, it would seem, but this isn”t something I”d personally recommend. The inner lip is hard to control and hard to apply a stencil too making both freehand and prepared tattooing difficult. It”s also meant to be FREAKING sore.
